BRIELLE — On Saturday, July 16, Waypoint 622 in Brielle will be partnering with Rescue Ridge to host an animal adoption event that general manager Maura Colon is calling “Yappy Hour.”
Rescue Ridge is an animal adoption group located in Spring Lake and operates mostly locally. There will be dogs and cats for adoption visiting the river-side bar from 5 to 7 p.m.
As a small nonprofit, Rescue Ridge relies almost entirely on donations. Most of the rescued animals are found on the streets or abandoned.
Ms. Colon said customers are invited to bring their dogs and spend time on the building’s terrace, giving them the opportunity to meet some of the animals that are up for adoption.
There will not be any on-the-spot adoptions on Saturday, but anyone interested can sign up and have further discussions with Rescue Ridge about an adoption.
Ms. Colon said the idea started when restaurant owner Larry Grafas asked her to set up an animal-friendly event, and she suggested Rescue Ridge.
“We are a dog-friendly place,” Ms. Colon told The Coast Star. “As long as your dog is well-behaved, you can bring it to our patio to dine with us. So we just wanted to have an adoption event as well.”
There will be drink specials and appetizer specials during the event, with a portion of the funds donated to Rescue Ridge. People will also be able to make individual donations.
“Sons of Mothers,” a band made up of 11-year-olds from the Ranney School, will be playing. Ms. Colon said they play standard rock ‘n’ roll and are not to be missed.
Ms. Colon said the restaurant’s new Yappy Hour may become a regular thing.
“We’d like to do it again depending on how successful this one is,” she said. “Maybe even another one this summer.”
